Description

We found that the Z33WP captured rather inaccurate colors in our tests: with the camera set to the auto white balance setting, most of the colors were shifted significantly towards the blue, giving the video an unpleasant bluish tint. Also, if you tend to take a bunch a short movie clips, the Successive Movie mode lets you stitch the clips together into one movie. These are great for when you, your friends, or partner, all want to be in the shot but there’s no-one around to take the picture. Fujifilm’s is the least expensive to date, and although it doesn’t make any claims for being shockproof, as many of its competitors do, the curvy plastic shell seems robust. The soft, rubbery rise gives the only thumbgrip on the Fujifilm Z33WP, and to achieve that you have to rest your thumb on the upper right corner of the LCD, covering part of the view.

Casio EX-Z33 is significantly lighter (27g ) than the Fujifilm J30 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips. It’s waterproof down to three metres, and suitable for snorkelling as well as general beach use, skiing and wet weather. The lens is completely internal, sealed up tight behind a piece of glass that's easily wiped clean of water and dirt. The Z33WP has a 3x zoom lens built into the camera body: the lens does not protrude from the front of the camera body. The W80 is also a tougher camera: Pentax claims that it can go down to 16 feet underwater, be dropped from 3. This camera has no image stabilization features: there is no optical or electrical image stabilization on this camera. Ultimately, the Fujifilm Z33WP is good at helping you capture images for printing at 4x6 sizes and for sharing on the Web.

Unfortunately, it's a terrible location for a Record button, making for a less stable hold on this small camera. There is only a single connection on the Z33WP; a proprietary socket in the battery and memory card compartment that can be used to connect the camera to a computer or printer with the supplied USB cable. As you'd expect, there are some significant tradeoffs in optical and image quality that come from combining the words "least-expensive" and "waterproof" in a single product description, but frankly, there are times when having any pictures of a special event is more important than the absolute quality of the images. This list stretches over two screens, and there is an additional 4 screens of less commonly used setup options, such as volume, memory card formatting, etc.

So, it boils down to if the robustness and better image quality of the D10 is worth the extra money. The photos and performance from the Z33WP are not the best, though, so consider this camera only if you need the waterproofing and you're on a budget. Still, the noise-reduction processing helped the camera produce indoor photos that were good enough for posting online. The small size and capacity of the NP-45 battery means that you will need to take the charger with you on trips longer than a day or two, and you can't use any other types of battery or power sources.
