Description

Stepping back into the wild with this book has really felt like coming home and I am so grateful to the author for enabling this adventure. Our Hedgerow Guide aims to help you forage for British plants that are relatively common in the wild, easy to find and good to eat – and to avoid those that are inedible or poisonous. Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland | Covering 48 wild edible and medicinal plants, I have written this book to help you rediscover our forgotten plant heritage.

I absolutely love this book, it is a very valuable foraging companion on wild walks and as reference when I teach forest school. The species mentioned in the book are growing in my surroundings (Cork,Ireland) which makes it practical and simple to use. As the opportunity to use what nature has provided, and to encourage more plants in our own back gradens that can be used for a range of purposes – rather than purely to look nice – foraging has become cool! While I have a huge interest in such things and appreciate his efforts, he's not took into consideration that we don't know what the plants he's taking about look like and he's not put this book together in a detailed manner; it's just sort of thrown together.By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.

I regard thiese as an essential part of the available information for any plant identification compilation. He has travelled extensively documenting and recording the traditional and local uses of wild food plants in indigenous cultures, and his work has taken him to Africa, India, SE Asia, Europe and the USA. Cautions for plants, where necessary are given and if the plant has any other interesting uses then these are also covered. My book covers forty-eight plants and includes multiple colour photographs for easy plant identification. Instead of providing a snapshot for each plant, Harford gives a link to a database of pictures which give a more indepth photography for each plant and a better resource for identification. I mean we all know what a dandelion looks like but people might make the fatal mistake of eating a giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) instead of common hogweed (Heraceleum sphondylium) people need to know what they look like! Tell us why you liked or disliked the book; using examples and comparisons is a great way to do this. My book is considered an invaluable addition to any forager, herbalist, gardener, horticulturist or naturalist’s library.

Never rely on one source for plant identification, and never eat anything unless you are 100% sure it is edible.Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.
