Description

I would say Osprey Fairview 55 would be a great backpack for digital nomads preferring a backpack to a suitcase with a day bag giving the additional option to carry your laptop or electronics. But nothing broke, nothing ripped, there are no holes and the zippers are still in perfect condition. I travelled with this bag for a year in Madeira, mainland Portugal, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico, while carrying with me everything I owned at the time. I suspect the Fairview 40 that I purchased the other day is the older model (in that misty green/gray color with cyan buckles), and I don’t think it has the front shoulder straps to attach the Daypack I brought separately. Due to its backpacking pack shape, plus the removable daypack, the Fairview has a tendency to be quite bulky no matter how you fill it.

The daypack came in handy most days, although the smaller size does lead to overpacking and, as mentioned above, the mesh pouches for water were of minimal use. And, while we love compression straps, we found that they dangled with no place to go when tightened to the max — something that could easily be improved upon. You did mention that the Farpoint/Fairview 40 is a size more suited for summer in Eu or trips in Asia. Our expertise in designing backpacks that fit every shape, size and gender dates back to 1974, when Osprey was founded on designing custom packs for mountaineers headed to the Sierra. However, in practice, the daypacks mesh pockets and rendered useless when the pack has just about anything in it so you may be best off carrying that water bottle than risking a spillage on the inside. The main bag is carry-on and the entire harness can be stowed neatly behind a zipped panel — ideal for when you’re checking it in or want to carry it by the handle without any straps dangling around. If you don’t want to use the daypack on its own, you can leave it attached to the main bag for additional packing space. I’m not a fan of having my laptop in the main bag so it was a good compromise since the 55s main bag doesn’t have the laptop compartment. I will be headed to Ireland from the US for a few weeks of travel and the Farpoint 55 sounds perfect.

In the quest to be ever-more environmentally-responsible, Osprey have also ensured all water repellent coatings on the bag are free from harmful fluorocarbons. The Osprey Fairview 55 is a very durable, lightweight, midsized backpack great for those who plan shorter or longer trips but aren’t planning longer hikes while carrying this bag. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer. I also found it easy to load the bag into taxis and onto boats using the handles and used them to carry the bag for short periods of time. The good news is that the latest editions have reduced the differences between these two packs, making it a bit easier to choose.

We aren't a huge fan of the way the bag naturally distributes weight, but again, after adjusting and readjusting, you should be able to find the sweet spot. The outside of the pack is littered with compression straps and handles, which we greatly appreciated during our travels because the Fairview tends to feel a little bulky.

The 13L daypack is small, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless with a padded laptop sleeve, zip pocket and space for a jumper, snack and small amount of camera gear in the main compartment. The Fairview is designed for women and comes in one size with a new adjustable torso length of 38-53cm.The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. I used the daypack fairly often, especially during more adventurous activities, including a Mount Batur sunrise trek in Bali. We’re yet to get our hands on the Osprey Fairview 55, however, we have had 5 months of testing in South East Asia with the Farpoint 70 with the pair sharing plenty of similarities. compatible laptop sleeve (34 x 28cm) and padded zippered pocket (24 x 28cm) inside the daysack’s main compartment. The Fairview is available in three sizes – 40L, 55L or 70L to suit different trip durations and packing requirements.

A counterpart to their best-selling Farpoint series, the Fairview benefits from the same great features but with a female specific back system. Airlines don’t always specify how big a personal item can be, but the general guideline is that it should fit easily under the seat in front of you.

By using a 450D fabric throughout the new model sits in between the fabrics giving a good general level of durability but probably helping to increase the overall weight of this new model. As with most female specific backpacks, the shoulder Yoke is narrower to provide a more comfortable fit for women.
