But to this day, despite what I consider a very high grit level, there are still rounds where I have to struggle to stay engaged. I’ve played with successful business people, professional athletes, and plenty of other high achievers who undoubtedly have serious grit. The goal of a golf book should be simple—get you to shoot lower scores—but so often they're bogged down by technical jargon and theoretical filler. I have personally improved after reading this book, but more importantly I am just having more fun playing the game!

You can finally get all of the methods he’s used to become a scratch golfer and coach other golfers in one complete guide. After a few bad swings, they would lose their composure and continue in a negative mindset for the rest of the day. It's about understanding how to be more efficient with your time to get the most out of your game on various topics. What I read the book for didn’t come until the last 100 pages and again, was nothing ground breaking or new.I preferred Young’s book, even though the writing in Sherman’s is more articulate and better organized. And I believe on those days, it’s where you have your best chance to grow your grit and solidify these habits. It just shifts your approach so that skills and time you do have will become much more fun -- for you and your playing partners.

While I still have to work on these shots to maintain my skill, I believe I am an excellent intermediate wedge player. I have seen immediate improvement in my game, and many others too - not because of technical advice, but due to course management strategy and an improved perspective while playing. Learn the philosophy that has helped thousands of players worldwide lower their scores and improve their relationship with golf.I was utterly terrified of intermediate wedge shots for years and would do anything to avoid leaving myself 30-80 yards from the hole. I have a solid short game and I can putt with the best of them…and it’s enough to let me love the game more than ever. The strategy section is pure gold, and opened my eyes to ways I can improve my handicap without even changing my swing. As a long time golfer I found this book to be one of the best guides I have read to inform and set more realistic goals for my game.

This is a great “coaching” book; you won’t find any swing tips or advice on technical maneuvers here. Conversely, those who genuinely want to improve and love the process find ways to problem-solve to reach their goals and outperform. Sherman does a great job of illustrating and supporting his concepts with statistics and objective data, while presenting in the information in an easily digestible manner.

If you like what I've been doing on Practical Golf, you will find this book far more comprehensive and organized than anything I have ever done. I’m in my early 40s and wish a mentor, coach, or my dad had put a book like this in front of me when I was 9 years old (albeit the data Jon references was not available in the 1990s, but you get the point).

I have yet to find a book more comprehensive, yet approachable, and so vital to learning the foundations of golf. You can finally get all of the methods he's used to become a scratch golfer and coach other golfers in one complete guide. It was great to ground my expectations with actual stats of what people with similar handicaps (or even better handicaps) are doing. In terms of advice for things you can try out with your swing, the biggest one for me was Tour Tempo… wow.

I am confident a golfer of any level can pick up this book and take their game to the next level with just a few of the many lessons within. Eventually, I realized this was impossible to do, and to get better, I had to conquer the problem head-on.
