But for my own use, the Marshall Monitor II ANC is the perfect headset and I don’t see myself moving away soon. We didn’t experience any annoying dropouts, though we did struggle to connect to our laptop in a very high traffic area – that’s not an issue unique to Marshall’s headphones, though.

At around 30 hours you won’t find yourself charging them up a lot which is great considering the growing number of devices we find ourselves having to plug in night after night. The range maxes out at about 10m though so as long as you keep within that range you shouldn’t have too many issues. Howard Shore's epic soundtrack is perhaps one of the most glorious ever put to screen - and with the Marshall Monitor II's - it's never been clearer just how powerful it truly is. I wore them for a few journeys on a particularly raucous stretch of the Central Line on the London Underground and was immediately clear to me that the Marshall, while reasonably effective, struggle to deaden as much of the roar and rattle of the carriages as its rivals. On the left earcup, there’s an ‘ANC’ button that lets you toggle between regular active noise-cancelling, 'Monitoring Mode', and turning it off altogether.I can connect to both my iPhone 11 Pro and my Huawei Matebook X Pro at the same time and the Marshall Monitor II ANC headphones has no problems switching between them depending on which one was playing audio. If you tend to watch a lot of videos this can also be a problem since there’s a slight lag between a person’s lips and when you hear what they’re saying.

On the Monitor II headphones are three primary control buttons, with a quick, tactile button to toggle Active Noise Cancelling, an excellent multi-function 'M-Button' to allow users to switch between three customisable equaliser settings, and the crowning glory of the Monitor II's convenience, a delightful control knob (now in all-black compared to the original bronze colour). Dramatic, revolutionary, and cosmic - coupled with those crisp spoken lyrics that feel timeless - the Monitor II capably handles the pulsing beats and exciting mystical ambience of We Come 1, but seemingly dials back on the heaviness of the bass in favour of vocal clarity.

This is an inconvenient oversight, particularly as the control knob on the headphones themselves doesn't work when they're out of battery. Nobody uses those modes because they’re almost always cranked out willy-nilly, just to give the listener the appearance of having lots of cool options.

If you happen to have a deep voice the headset’s mic is going to cut off a big portion of the lower notes so that your voice will just sound slightly higher than usual.Unfortunately, the ear pads are not interchangeable, but this generally does not impact the durability of these robust headphones.

For audiophiles, gamers, editors, lovers of Marshall products - there really aren't many options that can outwardly knock the absolute splendour of Marshall's Monitor II headphones - from the solid battery to the excellent, vibrant sound unlike few other headphones at its budget, it's rare that I am lost for words while reviewing headphones - and the Monitor II's have consistently left me unable to speak, they're just that good. We tried the headphones on a group of people of varying head size and none of them had any trouble getting the cups to fit comfortably over their ears. After all, these closed Bluetooth headphones have a high-quality finish, are very comfortable to wear and feature Active Noise Cancelling and app connection with many adjustment options. Black vinyl, brass accents and the embossed Marshall script give Monitor Bluetooth that iconic look, while the foldable design, heavy-duty cast metal hinges and a canvas carrying case provide extra protection for wherever the road takes you.Suddenly, drumbeats appear from the back right as if to counteract the smoothness of the guitar, horns and woodwinds blare in front as the vocals build in intensity and POW - that fierce trio sears through the Monitor II headphones with an uproar - and chills ensue. With a collapsible design, you can take the Monitor II ANC anywhere on the go with their compact size. The entire headset can roll into a pseudo-ball shape and be carried around in a small pouch — no hard case needed.
